We, the collective Zelluloid42, take the protection of your personal data very seriously. We treat your personal information confidentially and in accordance with statutory data protection regulations and this privacy policy.

2. Data collection when visiting this website

When you access our website, your browser automatically transmits the following information to our hosting provider:

  • IP address
  • Date and time of request
  • Visited page
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system

These data are necessary for technical reasons under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. They may be used for error diagnostics and to deliver the site. They are not merged with other data sources for profiling or advertising.

3. Cookies

This website does not set its own analytics or marketing cookies.

If you choose to play an embedded YouTube video, YouTube / Google may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser. This happens only after you actively start the video.

4. Contact

If you contact us by email, we store your message and contact information to process your request. We do not share this data without your consent.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for pre-contractual or request handling and, where applicable, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

5. Newsletter

You can subscribe to the Zelluloid42 newsletter on our website. For this purpose, we process the email address you provide in order to send you information about our program, screenings, events and other Zelluloid42 news.

We use Brevo, a service provided by Brevo (Sendinblue GmbH), to manage newsletter subscriptions and send our emails. Your email address and information relating to your subscription are transmitted to and processed by Brevo on our behalf.

Newsletter subscriptions use a double opt-in procedure. After submitting your email address, you will receive a confirmation email. Your subscription is completed only after you confirm it using the link in that email.

The legal basis for this processing is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You may withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link contained in every newsletter or by contacting us at info@zelluloid42.de. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

We retain information necessary to document your consent where required to demonstrate compliance with applicable data protection law.

Brevo processes newsletter data on our behalf as a processor under Art. 28 GDPR. According to Brevo, the servers used to process and store its databases are located within the European Union.

6. YouTube embeds

On some pages, for example in the homepage trailer section, we offer video content via YouTube. The video player loads only after you choose to play it.

  • Preview images are loaded from YouTube’s image server, i.ytimg.com. This establishes a connection to Google / YouTube when the page is opened and may transmit technical information, including your IP address.
  • Until you click play, no YouTube player is loaded and no connection to YouTube’s video-player domain, youtube-nocookie.com, is established.
  • After you click to load or play the video, we embed the player via Google’s privacy-enhanced domain, youtube-nocookie.com.

When the player loads, Google / YouTube may process data such as your IP address, device and browser information, and may set cookies. Data may be transferred to the United States or other countries.

The legal basis for loading the video player is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, given by clicking to load the video. You can refuse by not starting the video.

External links to YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, or similar platforms are ordinary hyperlinks. No data is sent to those platforms until you follow the link.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR, you may have the right to:

  • Access your data
  • Request correction or deletion

  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future

8. Hosting

Our website is deployed in Vercel’s Frankfurt region. When you visit the site, connection and log data as described in section 2 are processed on Vercel’s infrastructure. Vercel acts as our processor under Art. 28 GDPR. A Data Processing Addendum (DPA) with Vercel applies according to our hosting agreement. Where personal data is transferred to the USA, Vercel relies on appropriate transfer mechanisms, including the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. Database hosting (Neon)

We use Neon, LLC as a managed PostgreSQL database provider. Our Neon database is hosted in the Frankfurt region. Neon processes the content and other data stored in our content management system, as well as technical database connection data, on our behalf to operate the website.

Neon acts as our processor under Art. 28 GDPR. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, Neon uses appropriate safeguards, including the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and, where applicable, Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Changes to this policy

We reserve the right to update this policy to reflect legal or technical changes.
